Did you know that to get the full benefits of an aromatherapy massage, only natural essential oils should be used? This is because true essential oils are obtained from flowers and plants and then mixed with a carrier oil. Carrier oils are made up of larger molecules that remain on the surface layers of the skin to nourish it, whereas essential oils are made up of smaller molecules that penetrate the skin and enter the circulatory system where they are able to travel around the body. This is why it is important that we take care to avoid certain essential oils for certain people and carryout a thorough consultation beforehand. Due to this method of delivery, it is the essential oils in aromatherapy that provide the desired outcome rather than the phyiscal manipulation techniques used in other massage treatments. Gentle, slower movements help to work the oils into the skin to produce a range of results including relaxing, energising, calming, muscle relief and so on (depending on your chosen pre-blended oil). This is a highly recommended treatment for those who enjoy the relaxation of a gentle massage, combined with the gorgeous aromas of natural essential oils. Definitely one of my favourites! (Just for Information - artificial scents that are created in a lab and then added to an oil do not have the same makeup and, therefore, will not provide any benefits apart from the physical action of the massage. They may cause headaches, nausea or even irritate the airways as our bodies are not designed to process this type of artificial scent. Keep that in mind when buying scented candles, plug-ins etc. Artificial may be cheaper, but they are not good for you.)
